Legal recruiter Laurence Simons has announced it is opening an office in Rio de Janeiro.

Fernando Cavalerio will manage the new office. Fernando has over six years experience working as a lawyer with Brazilian firm Machado Meyer Sendacz e Opice.

Fernando Cavalerio said, “Brazil is the biggest economy in Latin America and has bounced back strongly from the global recession - the economy is expected to end the year with growth of 7.5 percent. As a result, 2.4 million new jobs were created in the first 10 months of 2010 - which surpasses even the 2.14 million new jobs generated in 2008, the best year since the Brazilian government began keeping track in 1992. Sustainable economic growth is forecast to produce 3 million new jobs in 2011 and this presents a massive opportunity to the specialist skilled recruiters needed to plug talent shortfall in the region. The oil and gas sector is of huge importance to the state, and should continue to attract multinationals and foreign investment in the region.”

The Rio de Janeiro office is Laurence Simons’ second in Brazil, following the opening of an office in São Paulo in February.

Pedro Amaral Dinkhuysen, Laurence Simons’ Latin American managing partner said, “Laurence Simons’ successes in Brazil since we launched in Sao Paulo nine months ago has been phenomenal. We have already helped 40 companies and law firms find exceptional lawyers and found new opportunities for 50 lawyers in the Latin America region. Given that there are something like 658,000 active lawyers in the country and that there is one lawyers for every 300 Brazilians, we’re confident the second local office will be as successful as the first.”
