Lawyer under fire

The reality of the modern education system is that, if you want to get a degree, you need to accept that you're going to be lumbered with a terrifying burden of debt that will hang around your neck like an albatross and lurk in the corners of your house like an invisible elephant. It's not ideal, but that's the way it is.

Well, if you're former law student, Randall H Hubatch, who completed his degree from UW-Madison in 2004, you can get kitted out and try to rob a bank.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Mr Hubatch - armed with only a hat portraying the mascot of his former university, Bucky Badger, and a plastic Star Wars gun - has been charged with robbery after demanding $500 from the no-doubt intimidated teller. Given that his debts allegedly amount to $250,000, our hero would have needed to rob quite a few banks to meet his total, but every little helps.

Hubatch told Madison police detective Tom Helgren that he is "slightly autistic", adding that if he is charged "I have nothing else to say, and if released, I will do it again".

While it's true that lawyers need to make many financial sacrifices to complete their education, it is fair to say that robbing a bank disguised as a mascot is never a solution to anyone's problems.
