Law firms have impressed in the Stonewall Top 100 Employers 2013 Workplace Equality Index, with Simmons and Simmons, Eversheds, Hogan Lovells and five more legal businesses named in the list.

The annual poll takes into account a number of factors in deciding how good a company is for one of the UK's 1.7 million lesbian, gay and bisexual employees to work for assessing policy and practice across a variety of industries.

Eversheds, placed in number 52, expressed its pleasure at being recognised in this way and reiterated its commitment to promoting leading-edge diversity across its organisation.

Cornelius Medvei, partner sponsor for Perspective, said: "We are delighted with our significantly higher placement in the rankings this year. It is a huge and highly regarded achievement for the firm."

Hogan Lovells - which was in the top 100 for the third consecutive year - also noted that its LGBT network has become larger over the last few years and suggested that this has helped the business work towards creating a more "inclusive and welcoming" workplace.

According to the firm, diversity is considered an inherent part of its HR policies and great strides have been made in recent years towards ensuring that people of all stripes feel comfortable working within the organisation.

"Ranking in the top 50 is a fantastic result that reflects the continued focus we have placed at Hogan Lovells on encouraging and maintaining a diverse workforce," declared Ruth Grant, partner and co-chair of the Hogan Lovells Diversity Committee.
