In Europe, I thought the summer months were supposed to be quieter, a time to catch up on unread emails and hopefully take some well-deserved time away from the office; to recharge, refresh, reflect. How wrong I was!
Amidst the activity, I am reflecting about research and, more specifically, Laurence Simons’ international research function. We are as busy as ever which is a strong sign of a consistently buoyant market across our core recruiting sectors. Researchers are continuing to roll up our sleeves and dig deep into the market - I see us wear our research Badge of Honour with pride.
Admittedly, we are a support function for our business, assisting our internal stakeholders in legal and compliance search processes and yet I would acknowledge that we are so much more. We are not revenue generators (per se) but we do sit in the “engine room” of our business, enabling a search to run its process life cycle, helping to harmonise the structures, processes, looking for efficiencies along the way. We are encouraged to be visible, to engage in business conversations and to play to our individual strengths. If we want, we can go above and beyond the “traditional” research scope of generating exceptional talent for exceptional opportunities. Being empowered in all we do and want to do is truly enlightening.
What we have in Laurence Simons’ Research function is special. We are a bespoke unit, handpicked and secured for our passion and talent. I truly believe we are a premium research function, unlike others in legal search market.
So, as I am running around servicing our internal and external clients, I take time out today to doff my cap to my fellow international researchers and say “thank you”. We are only as good as the people we hire and we hire exceptional people.
