One of the greatest parts of being a specialist legal, compliance and legal operations search firm, partnering with businesses across the world to find the best talent, is that we also have the best talent inhouse at Laurence Simons Search. The Laurence Simons Search team interviews continue, this time Stephanie Greaves, Associate Director for Southern Europe, is in the spotlight.
Please tell us a bit about yourself.
I grew up in the UK (Birmingham and Oxfordshire) until the age of 7 when I moved to Paris with my family, I then moved to Geneva in my teenage years before going on to study law and sociology in Cardiff University. I have loved growing up with and interacting with people from all nationalities and backgrounds, and Paris has proved to be a great place to settle with a good quality of life.
How long have you been working for Laurence Simons Search and what does your role involve?
I joined Laurence Simons the week of the Royal Wedding (Kate & William) in 2011, which is a handy reference to remember the length of my commitment! I was attracted to the prospect of pursuing my recruitment career in an international capacity and making use of my legal training to be a credible contact for my prospective clients and candidates.
My role involves legal and compliance searches across multiple jurisdictions (France, Belgium, Spain, and Italy), from mid to executive level. Whilst my work was more legally focussed a decade ago, compliance has gained significant ground and I have really enjoyed building a strong track record in this field across my regions. I find the importance that business ethics is taking to be a truly positive change in our increasingly chaotic world, and love speaking with individuals who are committed to this endeavour.
I am also a Lumina Sparks Practitioner which enables me to delve into the soft skills aspect of recruitment, as making a true match between a candidate and client in this respect is so fulfilling, and where we can really make a difference. My role involves speaking with a lot of people on a day to day basis, understanding their core needs and aspirations and ensuring that I have an up-to-date understanding of the legal and compliance ecosystem In order to deliver the best service and cultivate the best talent pool for our clients.
What book are you currently reading?
Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evaristo and really enjoying it. I love the humanity of the characters and the truly refreshing narrative.
How do you relax?
Walking, reading, drawing, and listening to podcasts while doing menial tasks at home.
If you had an extra hour in the day how would you spend it?
I can’t pretend there are days where I wouldn’t binge an extra season of something on Netflix or go down a You Tube rabbit hole (or sleep!) but, if I were to add this privilege every day, I would add that time to a family meal. During the week it can be a bit of a military exercise and not wholly enjoyable. Leisurely dinners/lunches where conversation flows and where I have taken the time to prepare a meal that I have put some thought into, make for a far more enjoyable experience!
If you had a superpower, what it be and why?
I have recurrent dreams about flying since as long as I can remember. Flying must be exhilarating and I would get to wear a cape!
Share with us your favourite inspirational quote…
This is a tough question as I love quotes and it is very difficult to choose. I am going to cop out and use my own which I keep using to motivate myself into exercise twice a week: “You never regret a work-out”!
