The recruitment scene in Brazil

The Brazilian legal market has experienced significant growth over the past few years despite economic uncertainly in many other parts of the world.  A combination of the already strong and fast growing oil and gas, agricultural and mining sectors coupled with the announcement that Brazil will host the 2014 Soccer World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, has further heightened the expectations of the international business community.  This has of course resulted in increased foreign investment into Brazil as well as major Brazilian multinationals, such as Petrobas, making their presence felt globally.

When it comes to hiring optimism amongst multinationals, Brazil is second to India in Manpower’s Global Employment Outlook. Interestingly for lawyers, this hiring is driven primarily by the services sector.  Below is a brief overview of what we are seeing in Brazil – in-house, in private practice, by sector and remuneration trends.  As the first international legal recruiter to enter the Brazilian market (we opened in Sao Paulo in 2009 and Rio de Janeiro in 2010), I feel we are uniquely positioned to provide this overview.
