Our client is a global commodities firm active across a myriad of sectors. Freight being a core part of the business, they have a well-knit legal team that deals with shipping and maritime disputes exclusively and they are now looking for a shipping arbitration counsel to join them in Geneva. There is a real opportunity here for a shipping litigation lawyer to join a household name, and live and work in Geneva, Switzerland.
The successful candidate will work closely together with the business line and particularly the freight operations team. This individual will advise on a myriad of complex shipping disputes and handle many matters independently. The workload includes advising on e.g. charterparty and freight contract disputes, assists the shipping and trading desks with daily queries, advise vessel operators across the globe, present arbitration cases before tribunals, liaise with insurers and P&I Clubs and much more.
Candidates should ideally be common law qualified and have at least six years of post qualification experience, either in private practice or in-house in a P&I Club, commodities trading house or shipping company. You should be technically astute and a good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent English is essential, French language skills would be a plus.
The client is especially interested in shipping litigation lawyers with a strong, hands-on knowledge of freight operations, particularly dry bulk, and familiarity with charter party forms such as BALTIME and NYPE. You should have excellent drafting skills also.
